What’s going wrong!
These efforts unfortunately have not yet touched the consumer in a big way limited either by a price point issue or not being a proper substitution to an existing product. As a result the market, consumer and essentially You & Me still continue to enjoy the goods and services we are used to and which are easily affordable as well. We are still not worried about how and where they were manufactured, as long as it fulfills our wants and needs. Hence the biggest problem in controlling climate change is that we (you and me) still "remain" the Sponsors of climate change.

In perspective,
Climate Change Sponsor = You and Me
Climate Change Mitigation = Governments and Some Institutions
*Governments and other bodies are main instruments that can help apply an idea to a majority of people in the absence of self governance. This is what is enforced as policies, rules and law. Leaving to Governments to handle the issue is not wrong, but the problem does not lie between Governments and without the active engagement of the “consumer” it becomes a fruitless exercise.
Current Climate Agenda
The current agenda originated from a finger pointing exercise on the Carbon foot print of countries and respective Governments. Hence it is evident that reaching an effective deployable consensus is almost impossible with such a mind set.
The reasoning!
A product, may it be a good or a service, has a product life cycle that encompasses the stages of manufacture, usage and disposability. With ever increasing off shore manufacture, global integration and international trade most products can have a life cycle beyond the borders of Geography.
For example a Chinese manufactured TV can be used in Hawaii and disposed off in the USA. Where and to which country would the Carbon Foot print of that TV be attributed to? This is the reason we cannot have a Climate Change mitigation agenda between Countries and Governments. Time has come to think of an action which is ‘beyond borders”
New Agenda for Climate Action
The agenda we propose for future Climate talks is to commence finger pointing at Products (goods and services) by emission and other environmental impact assessment standards. It would be irrespective of Country of origin, use or dispose. The focus should be life cycle foot print of all goods and services. The agenda should facilitate the listing of cleaner products in one common place and mandate the support by all Governments to subsidize and build awareness of such products to make them popular amongst the consumers. The agenda then becomes re-engineering of goods and services
